On January 27th, 2022, Google announced that the Smart Shopping and Local campaign types will be upgraded to the new Performance Max campaign type in time for the 2022 holiday season.
Starting in April, you can upgrade your Smart Shopping campaigns to Performance Max campaigns with a “one-click” tool. In June, you can do the same with your Local campaigns.
If you don’t want to upgrade your current Smart Shopping and Local campaigns to Performance Max, too bad. Google will automatically upgrade them from you starting in July for Smart Shopping campaigns and starting in August for Local campaigns.
I recommend upgrading your Smart Shopping and Local campaigns as soon as possible so that you can:
- learn the ins and outs of the new campaign.
- see how it affects overall account performance.
- rethink your strategy to incorporate Performance Max with your existing campaigns.
