On August 18th, Google announced that in the coming weeks there will be another algorithm update that will “make it even easier to find high-quality, original reviews“.
Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of details.
This is Google’s 5th product reviews update and we can expect to have more in the future as they continue to tweak.
Below are the previous product review updates:
- July 27th, 2022 – August 2nd, 2022: This update focused on English language reviews and emphasized best practices for writing product reviews.
- March 23rd, 2022 – ?: Google didn’t specify an end date for the rollout here. This update made sure to reward product reviews that met certain criteria such as including in-depth details, the review coming from a person who actually used the product, and more.
- December 1st, 2021 – December 21st, 2021: This update introduced two new best practices for product reviews, providing evidence and linking to other sellers if applicable.
- April 8th, 2021 – April 22nd, 2021: This update introduced what would become a series of product review updates. Google provided content creators with a list of best practices to writing helpful product reviews, which in turn would help buyers make better-informed purchase decisions.
What do I need to do?
Right now, you just need to wait for additional details. Once another announcement comes out, be sure to make note of any changes to how product reviews are ranked and apply any new best practices.
